Microblading lasts between 1 and 3 years — a wide range. The reason: pigment is affected by very different factors from person to person.
Factors That Affect How Long It Lasts
Skin type — the most significant factor
Oily skin produces sebum that breaks down pigment faster. Dry skin can hold pigment for up to 3 years.
Sun — the biggest enemy
UV rays break down pigments. In Israel's sunny climate, daily SPF on brows can add 6+ months to your treatment.
Retinol and acids
Products with retinol, AHA, BHA speed up cell turnover — and pigment breakdown. Keep them away from the brow area.
Chlorine and sea water
Frequent swimming in pools or the sea significantly shortens duration.
How to Make Your Microblading Last Longer
- ✅ SPF on brows every day
- ✅ Avoid retinol on the brow area
- ✅ Daily moisturising
- ✅ Annual touch-up to refresh colour
The Pigment Lifecycle: Month by Month
In the first two weeks after treatment, the colour looks darker and denser than expected — that's completely normal. The skin is healing, a thin top layer of pigment flakes away with it, and by day 14 the brows appear 30–40% lighter than right after the session. This surprises many clients, but it's exactly how the process is designed to work.
Between 2 and 6 months, the pigment settles under the skin. The colour gradually deepens back to its final shade — this is when you see "the real result." With consistent sun protection and no harsh skincare products on the brow area, the tone stays stable through month 12 and beyond.
From 12 months onward and up to 2–3 years, the pigment begins to fade slowly. On dry, well-protected skin the result is still visible at 3 years, just softer. On oily skin or with frequent sun exposure, noticeable fading often starts around 10–14 months. An annual touch-up keeps the intensity at whatever level you prefer, regardless of skin type.
The Israeli Climate and Your Microblading
Israel gets over 300 sunny days a year — great for lifestyle, demanding for pigment. UV-A and UV-B radiation degrades the colorants embedded under the skin and accelerates fading. Even on overcast days in Ashdod or Tel Aviv, cumulative UV exposure is meaningful. Applying SPF 30+ to brows every morning is the single most effective habit you can build to protect your investment.
On top of that, Israel's heat — especially April through October — drives significant perspiration. Sweat contains salts that, like sea water, speed up pigment breakdown. Regular outdoor exercise, sea swimming, and hot working environments all amplify this effect. Practical steps: rinse your face with lukewarm rather than hot water (hot water opens pores and accelerates fading), wear a wide-brimmed hat during peak sun hours (10am–4pm), and reapply SPF after towelling off from the sea. If you swim weekly, plan realistically for a touch-up at 12 months rather than 18.
Initial Touch-Up vs Annual Maintenance: What's the Difference?
Both appointments are called "touch-ups" but they serve completely different purposes. The initial touch-up at 5–6 weeks is a built-in second stage of the original treatment. Once the skin has fully healed, you can see exactly which areas didn't retain enough pigment — and those are filled in. It's not fixing a mistake; it's the planned completion of the treatment, included in the package price at Shania's studio.
The annual maintenance touch-up is scheduled when colour has naturally softened over time — usually between 12 and 18 months after the initial treatment. The session refreshes pigment depth, sharpens contours that have become subtler, and can include small shape adjustments if you want a change. Try not to wait too long: the more faded the brows, the longer and more involved the touch-up session becomes. The two appointments complete different roles — one finishes, one maintains.
How long does microblading last?
1–3 years depending on skin type, sun exposure and daily care.
What fades it fastest?
Sun exposure without SPF protection.
When to book the annual touch-up?
After 12–18 months, when you notice the colour starting to fade.
